Methylation Concerns
Methylation is a vital biochemical process that occurs in every cell of the body. It plays an essential role in DNA expression, energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter synthesis, hormone metabolism, immune regulation, and cardiovascular health. When methylation pathways are not functioning optimally, they may influence overall health and contribute to a variety of symptoms. Methylation is a type of epigenetic control that can be modify genetic expression through the environment.
At Transformation Clinic, we take an individualized, evidence-informed approach to evaluating factors that may affect methylation and one-carbon metabolism. Rather than focusing solely on genetic variants, we consider the broader clinical picture, including your medical history, nutrition, lifestyle, environmental exposures, medications, laboratory findings, and health goals.
Your personalized care plan may include:
-
Comprehensive health assessment
-
Nutrition and lifestyle counselling
-
Evaluation of nutrients involved in methylation, such as folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, riboflavin, choline, and other key cofactors
-
Functional and conventional laboratory testing, when clinically indicated
-
Evidence-informed nutraceutical recommendations, when appropriate
-
Ongoing monitoring and individualized treatment adjustments
While genetic testing may identify common gene variants involved in methylation pathways (such as MTHFR, MTRR, COMT, or CBS), having a genetic variant does not necessarily mean you have impaired methylation or require treatment. Our recommendations are based on your symptoms, clinical assessment, and available evidence, not genetics alone.
Our goal is to help optimize the body's natural biochemical processes through personalized nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and targeted interventions that support overall health and long-term wellness.
Genetic variants and methylation testing are only one part of a comprehensive health assessment. Naturopathic care is intended to complement, not replace, appropriate medical evaluation and treatment. Recommendations are individualized and based on your unique clinical presentation.
